Mr. Covatta practices at Drew & Ward in the areas of corporate law, labor and employment law, general litigation, franchising and real estate law. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and share issuances. He represents several large medical groups in the area and closely-held businesses. He also serves as local counsel for a number of national and multi-national companies.

He is a graduate of Bellarmine College (B.A., 1966), Columbia University (M.A., 1967 and Ph.D., 1971) and the University of Cincinnati (J.D., 1979). He was admitted to the bar in Ohio in 1979 and in Kentucky in 1997, as well as the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio in 1980. Mr. Covatta has been named in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 to the "Super Lawyers" list published by Cincinnati Magazine, based on a survey of more than 33,000 Ohio lawyers who voted for the best of the profession they had observed in action.

He came to law after a career in teaching. For some years, he was an Assistant Professor of English at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York, specializing in Shakespeare. His publications include a book, chapters of handbooks, reviews, and a number of newspaper and periodical articles in magazines as diverse as The New Republic, Cincinnati, and Renaissance Quarterly.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, he has lived in Cincinnati since 1976. He has volunteered for many community boards and was chairman of the board for the Contemporary Arts Center and President of The Literary Club and The Cincinnati Country Club. He also enjoys spending time with his family he and his wife have two daughters, a son, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Covatta calls himself one of the last true generalists because he successfully handles an array of many different legal cases.
