Richard G. Ward Cincinnati, Ohio
Partner Nick Ward serves his clients in diverse areas of the law - ranging from civil litigation to real estate matters to corporate law. But no matter what the case, Mr. Ward focuses on communication and problem solving. "Many problems are 'puzzles' that can be solved by assembling all the facts and cutting through any false assumptions and obstacles," he explains. "I like to show my clients that resolution may be quicker and easier than they first believe." Mr. Ward practices at Drew & Ward in civil litigation, residential and commercial real estate, as well as family law, estate planning, probate, corporate, and personal injury law. A Cincinnati native, he started as a clerk at Drew & Ward in 1984, and practiced with the firm for eight years. He was then a solo practitioner for 10 years. In 1996, Mr. Ward represented an illegitimate child in a landmark case, ultimately decided by the Ohio Supreme Court, which ruled that such children have rights under the Ohio Parentage Act in wrongful death cases even when paternity has not been established prior to death. The high court also ruled on constitutional equal protection grounds. Prior cases had incorrectly relied on inheritance laws to bar such claims. (See http://www.sconet.state.oh.us/rod/newpdf/0/1996/1996-ohio-135.pdf for more information.) Mr. Ward attributes his success in the law to his outlook about others: "I care about people and how they feel. I recognize that the best result is different for each individual situation. You have to know your clients and monitor their needs since they can change."
