Email - Mr. Schaefer

The Drew & Ward law firm is proud to announce that associate Jim Schaefer has been certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in residential real estate law.

As an OSBA Board Certified Residential Real Estate Specialist, he is one of a small group of attorneys in Ohio to have earned this distinction.

"By establishing this certification, the bar association aids legal clients in understanding that specialists have attained advanced knowledge and experience in this area," he explained.

Mr. Schaefer practices at Drew & Ward primarily in residential and commercial real estate, as well as corporate and small business representation, domestic relations and civil litigation.

He is a graduate of Ohio State University (B.A., 1989) and Capital University (J.D., 1992), and was admitted to the bar in Ohio in 1992.

To become certified, Mr. Schaefer was required to demonstrate substantial involvement in this field of law, devoting at least one quarter of his practice to residential real estate. He also passed a written exam, submitted five references attesting to his competency in this area, and earned a minimum of 36 hours of continuing legal education credits in his specialty area during the past three years.

Attorneys with this certification must be recertified at least every seven years and earn a minimum of 12 continuing legal education credits in the specialty area every two years.

The Ohio Supreme Court established a Commission on Certification of Attorneys as Specialists to identify specialists and set minimum standards for specialty certification.

Mr. Schaefer is a member of the Cincinnati and Ohio State bar associations, as well as the Southwest Ohio Land Title Association. He is very active in the real estate community and enjoys teaching first-time homebuyers about making good decisions. He recently was awarded the "Presenter of the Year" award from the Home Ownership Center of Cincinnati.

Drew & Ward Co., LPA celebrates its 47th anniversary this year, enjoying a history of more than four decades of service: service to clients, service to the law, and service to the community. Ray Drew and Dick Ward opened their office in the Central Trust Tower (now the Fourth & Vine Tower) in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1958. Both were pilots during World War II and returned to pursue legal careers after admiring attorneys in their own families. The two founded the firm based on the ideals of serving clients with good counsel, cost effective solutions and hard work.
